Coach James Franco portrait

From a MAJOR fragrance announcement to a retouching multi-tool that will give you lit-from-within skin, here’s what’s come across our desk this week.

Coach’s new fragrance campaign reveal has us guessing what’s inside.

As an actor, director, writer, artist and philanthropist, James Franco is a perfect fit for the creativity, confidence, curiosity and innate style of the Coach guy. The fragrance he’s fronting – Coach For Men – may not hit stores until late August, but a sneak preview of the bottle reveals a soft grey fade on the glass and an attached key tag (so quintessentially Coach) in dark grey leather. As for the actual scent, the beauty detectives among us would find clues in the way Coach creative director Stuart Vevers talks about Franco’s own traits: “James is the quintessential-cool Coach guy. He’s handsome, there’s a bit of danger and he’s thoughtful and challenging, energetic and prolific.”

Evo hair product Gangsta Grip, Box O' Bollox and Normal Persons Shampoo

This is no-nonsense haircare for no-nonsense people.

The products to come across our desks this week and make us smile have been from Evo — a sulphate and paraben-free brand with surprisingly refreshing packaging. Incorporated into your daily routine the tongue-in-cheek descriptions make a great start to the day. Our favourite (for the read and the product performance) is Gangsta Grip Bonding Resin ($39.50), a UV and humidity-protecting strong hold resin that can be reactivated with water to create a whole new hair look.

Guerlain Baby Glow Touch

Guerlain’s new hybrid stick promises retouching perfection.

Everyone wants glow right now, but there’s a fine line between seemingly light-from-within, youthful skin and shining like a disco ball. From Guerlain’s iconic Météorites range comes a product to give you not only the right amount of glow but the added benefits of colour correction too. The three shades — pink to revive the complexion, mauve to reflect light and white to illuminate — are made to blend together seamlessly on the skin, correcting and illuminating in a single swipe. The Baby Glow Touch is $77 and out now.

PREVAGE City Smart Double Action Detox Peel Off Mask

The old-school peel off mask has just had a makeover.

Put this in your diary for Monday: Go to Elizabeth Arden counter. Get new mask. Launching on the 26th, EA’s exciting new Prevage Double Action Peel Off Mask ($126) targets pollution by removing surface toxins and works to rejuvenate, brighten the skin and minimise pores — after just one use. The gel formula dries for a swift peel-off removal process, making for less mess and more time on your hands to do other things.

L'Oreal Paris Global Makeup Director Val Garland

L’Oreal Paris is about to get a shake up.

Whenever there’s a change in makeup director at a major beauty house, people watch with interest. Influencing everything from the product development to the ad campaigns, a new director’s creative handwriting can completely change a brand’s direction. L’Oreal Paris’ latest HR move is a bold one, with none other than industry veteran and queen of boundary-pushing makeup Val Garland taking up the role. From shoving models faces in trays of glitter for Vivenne Westwood to Lady Gaga’s alien-like Born This Way look, you can expect brave things to come out of the makeup giant and Garland is itching to get started: “I can’t wait to get inside the science labs at this number one beauty brand and co-create the makeup that I want to use – and that I think women the world over will want to use too. I’ve always said we don’t need to spend a lot of money to get brilliant, innovative, superior quality makeup products and L’Oréal Paris proves that,” she says.
