Swimsuit shopping can be a daunting task. We’re forever in search of the bum-lifting, leg-lengthening, tone-flattering suit that we vow to wear for years to come. A fail-proof formula that works for any kind of shopping is to remind yourself what cuts and colours work for you, what your favourite body part is that you want to enhance and most importantly, what makes you feel good and confident when you pull it on.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite swimsuits from brands that are guaranteed to flatter and help make you feel at home by the sea. After all, if you feel good, you look good – no matter the trend.

Shop our must-have summer swimsuits below.

1. Waihetian

Newcomer to the NZ-made swimwear scene, is Waihetian – an ethically minded brand doing its bit to contribute to a more sustainable future. Waihetian has taken post-consumer waste that once polluted the ocean and turned it into the fabric that your new favourite swimsuit is made from. This beautiful scoop back ‘Tied to you’ swimsuit is one piece with moderate coverage and flattering ribbed fabric.

 2. Peony

High-waisted bikini briefs have stood the test of time for an excellent reason and the ‘Wildflower’ Hi Pant from Peony is top of our summer wishlist. Sitting high above the belly button, it draws focus to and lengthens, the legs. Pair with a dainty balconette bralette emphasises the torso and natural curves of the waist.

With an underwire, it supports the bust, and an adjustable strap means it can be fitted to you depending on how tight you want it. Rarely, if ever, does this style not suit anyone who dons it.

3. Denizeri

We’re quite smitten with this sporty number, the Ada One Piece from Mei Lan. High coverage and very secure, this is for a practical woman who swims for sport and fun and wants the ease of one suit for all eventualities.

The subtle pops of colour at the neck and arm lines take a classic white suit and make it a piece that stands out. The keyhole detail at the back adds a touch of femininity to a pretty practical swimsuit.

 4. Marysia

Marysia is an iconic swimwear brand for a reason. Dedicated to impeccable fit and always flattering design, this ‘Salento’ seersucker bikini is the perfect example of a bikini you’ll wear for years to come.

A soft, off-white with cute pink stitching, this fast-drying fabric is built for beauty and function. The bikini top has moulded cups and subtle padding for lift and the high-waisted brief is a boy-short length which hugs the curves and features delicate detail at the hips.

 5. Piha Swim

Piha makes swimsuits for everyone and this one is something extra sweet. The Tahiti Holiday swimsuit is only one on our list with a peplum and with the button-up detail and adorable floral print, it’s a bit like wearing a leotard and just as playful.
