5 things we love this week: Marle, Haim in Prada, and so much more

Each week the Fashion Quarterly team rounds up what to read, buy, see, shop, drink and eat.

1. Marle’s Marvellous Mimi

As our sunlight hours shorten, and the weather cools, it only feels natural to turn to our favourite wooly layers for some extra warmth. Fortunately, Marle’s much-loved Mimi jumper is back and better than ever, with an array of never-before-seen hues and textures that have us adding-to-cart immediately. The only downside? Trying to decide between the classic fisherman rib or honeycomb stitch, and the sweet tones of lavender and honeycomb, or the earthy tobacco and khaki.

2. Haim in Prada

Amid the fuss — and well deserved fuss at that — of the very well-dressed Grammy winners this year (flower-pressed Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta, Harry Styles’ in Gucci leather, and Megan Thee Stallion in orange Dolce & Gabbana, to name a few), we’d like to give a special mention to the Haim siblings, who looked every much the angelic trio in custom periwinkle Prada ensembles designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons.

As long-time fans of the luxury fashion house, the sisters often joked amongst themselves that should they ever be nominated for a Grammy, they would wear Prada. Este tells Vogue, “We did a sister prayer — and then a couple of weeks later, we got the news that Prada would be making us custom outfits, which is an insane sentence to even say out loud. That, for me, is the fashion golden standard. Then we got the sketch, and it somehow exceeded every vision we’d had.”

Haim were nominees for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance at the 63rd Grammy Awards.

3. Check in to Room 408

Parris Goebel’s Runaway Motel has just dropped its second collection, Room 408. This seven-piece capsule — designed to make you move, work, play, and run away — sees the brand’s specifically engineered ‘MADE 2 MOVE’ fabric reimagined in three new pieces, the Limitless Reflective jumpsuit, and matching sports bra and bike shorts. With eight-way stretch movement and moisture wicking technology, it’s high performance activewear that’s stylish, modern and accessible (available in sizes XS-4XL).

The brand also introduces a reversible, cropped Puffa jacket that becomes iridescent in bright light, and, for the first time ever, lifestyle accessories — a face mask, duffle bag and a 2L stainless steel water bottle with matching reflective carriers.

Shop Room 408 now at runawaymotel.com.

4. A Common Interest in Kowtow

To accompany the launch of the brand’s autumn winter collection, Kowtow have released a reader for their ever-growing community, aptly titled Common Interest. Built on the ethos that great minds thinks differently, Common Interest is a reader dedicated to the innovation, preservation, and restoration of the environment.

As an idea that was sparked during the 2020 lockdown, Kowtow founder Gosia Piatek and her team have worked tirelessly to pull these pages together with a mission to educate and inspire, bringing together their global community of sustainability innovators — Céline Semaan, Jamie McLellan, Marjan van Aubel, Benee, Zinnia Kumar, and more — to share their words and wisdom.

Shop the reader at Kowtow Wellington, Kowtow Newmarket and online at kowtowclothing.com. For every reader printed, Kowtow has donated a tree to Trees that Count.

5. The America’s Cup is here to stay

And last, but not least (most definitely not least — the team won, after all), how could we not congratulate the almighty Emirates Team New Zealand on their history-making win of the 36th America’s Cup?!

For the fourth (and hopefully not final) time, the America’s Cup is New Zealand’s cup.
