Alexander McQueen Bipoic

Get ready fashion lovers – a film about iconic British designer Alexander McQueen is in the works!

According to WWD, the film is going to be directed by Oscar-nominated film director Andrew Haigh and will be partly inspired by the 2015 biography Alexander McQueen: Blood Beneath the Skin by Andrew Wilson, as well as script writer Chris Urch’s own findings about the late designer.

Lee Alexander McQueen was known for turning fashion on it’s head with his visionary designs, which often referenced romance and death. Trained on Savile Row, with a masters in fashion design from Central Saint Martins, McQueen’s designs attracted a legion of loyal fans, including Isabella Blow, Daphne Guinness, Kate Moss, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, Prince Charles and the late David Bowie.

McQueen was awarded the British Designer of the Year four times throughout his career and in 2003 was named International Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He struggled with drug addiction for several years and his death in 2010, aged 40 and at the top of his game, came as a devastating blow to the world of fashion.

His life’s work was recently on display in an exhibition entitled Savage Beauty at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London last year and was so popular that the museum had to stay open 24 hours a day to keep up with the demand. Savage Beauty debuted in 2011 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with over 650,000 people flocking to see the designer’s iconic work. It remains to be the most popular fashion exhibit of all time – proving that a film showcasing McQueen’s extraordinary 20-year career will also no doubt be an instant success.
