Beauty news: March 2015

Lipsticks are great but at the moment we can’t get enough of thick lip pencils and crayons.

We’re huge fans of Bobbi Brown’s Art Sticks, $50 (1), which glide on smoothly and deliver a creamy matte finish. One of our favourites is the Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon, $18 (2), which has a moisturising formula made from shea butter, kendi oil and jojoba oil.

Simply red

There’s something so scintillating about a collection of just one colour, and MAC’s Red, Red, Red range is no exception. It features lippies, blushes, nail polish and even eyeshadows in tones from tomato red to raspberry. If you’re game, try ‘Strike While Haute’, $38, on your lids.

MAC makeup artist KieKie Stanners says it’s easy to introduce red into your eye makeup routine. “Try blending MAC ‘Red Alert’ eye shadow, $38, softly over the eyelid then smudge MAC ‘Smolder Eye’ Kohl, $36, into the lash line for a copper take on a smoky eye.” We love the ‘Lady Bug’ lippie, $40 (3), and ‘Red Obsessed’ crème blush, $48 (4).

image-1Shades of grey

In celebration of the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, OPI has launched six limited edition nail lacquers (5). Naturally, the collection is made up of grey tones and textures, from gleaming silvers to dark charcoal with names like ‘Cement the Deal’ and ‘Dark Side of the Mood’. It’s not all neutrals though; there’s also one ravishing red! $20.

Smooth it out

Kevin Murphy’s Smooth Again (6) is a saviour for frizzy locks. With green tea and baobab seed oil, it leaves  hair glossy and smooth. $70.

image-2Get glowing

By summer’s end your skin will be in need of a pick-me-up. Enter Shiseido’s new Bio Performance Glow Revival Serum (7); it targets uneven skin tone, redness, wrinkles and pores; $128. Estée Lauder’s Enlighten range is another great newcomer. The day cream (8) works to restore radiance with brighteners and antioxidants, and the night serum (9) minimises dark spots, sun spots and redness. Night Serum, $129; and Even Skintone Correcting Cream, $124.
