Beyond the boucle, tweed and graphic, vibrant colours of Chanel’s 2015-16 Cruise fashion collection shown in Seoul, Korea this week, the big talking point was what was above the neck. The distinctive doll-like beauty look involved a thick glossy ‘hair hats’ – some of which were modern milkmaid braids and others braids wound in loops wound on top of the head.
Said to be inspired by images of Korean nobility Karl Lagerfeld had referenced, as well as playful manga cartoons, the look was created with synthetic hair glossed with beeswax and pinned on each models head, the obvious contrast in colour between the braids and each model’s natural shade, an intentional nod to the cartoony quality of the overall look.
On faces, while the snippets of false lashes attached on both the upper and lower lash lines weren’t easily adopted for every day, the takeaway for our own beauty routines has to be the unmissable nearly neon lips. As with all the best striking runway lip colours, the shouty pinkish red lip look was a combo of two Chanel beauty products – Rouge Allure Velvet long wear lip colour in ‘L’Éclatante’ N°42 and Le Crayon Levres Precision lip liner in Fuschia N°55.
The strong lip was balanced with soft, glowy pearlescent Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eye Shadow Twilight No. 89 and a subtle natural flush with pink cream blush, Chanel Les Beiges stick blush in N°21 was used on each model in the show.
Blue nails were an unexpected accessory the royal shade is the label’s Le Vernis nail colour in Fortissimo” N°681 from the Blue Rhythm collection.
