Emma Stone’s tousled waves are pure Hollywood glamour with a modern feel.
Emma Stone in a fringed Givenchy gown at this year’s Oscars was the embodiment of old Hollywood glamour and her soft wavy ‘do was very much in keeping with this. A gentle side-swept parting kept this look modern, and gave her a super feminine feel.
Silky, soft waves are the heart of Emma Stone’s classic style, says award-winning hairstylist Jen Morgan of Auckland’s Morgan and Morgan salon.
Here’s Jen’s step-by-step guide to creating Stone’s sophisticated yet sultry style.
Step 1: The key to this style is to start with hair that’s smooth, and totally frizz free. Before blow waving hair with a round brush, use a smoothing product like Redken Satinwear 04 Thermal Smoothing Blow-Dry Lotion.
Step 2: Next, section the hair out by parting from the top of the ear across to create your nape section, then section again from the crown of the head vertically to the top of the ear, and part the hair from down to the forehead using the natural part.
Step 3: This step is all about creating the wave. Use large barrel curling tongs and Hot Sets 22 Thermal Setting Mist for firm hold and heat protection, and begin curling from the bottom and crown sections. Curl hair from the back in different directions.
Pro tip: If your hair is fine, use a small clip or pin to keep the curls wold up when you release the curling tongs so the curls can cool before you let loose.
Step 4: For a Hollywood finish, curl the top sections of hair away from the face. Don’t curl too close to the root or ends – this give it a more modern finish.
Step 5: Make sure hair is cool before you brush or comb out curls. Spray lightly with Redken Triple Take 32 – this will help keep your style longer, especially in hot, humid conditions.
