Award-winning hairdresser Mana Dave tells us what to expect at this weekend's Newmarket Catwalk on the Street.

Newmarket’s Osborne Street is set to be transformed into a runway this weekend with a free fashion event showing in-season autumn/winter designs. Award-winning hairdresser Mana Dave, who is the creative director at Blaze Hair in Newmarket, is styling the hair for Catwalk on the Street and chats to us about which looks to covet.

What are the key hair looks for this weekend’s event?
We’re going for toned-down versions of current runway trends, like a low ponytail or a tousle. Both looks focus on the big trend of texture this season, with the option to have hair off your face or worn out with bounce and movement.

How can we recreate this look at home?
These looks are generally much easier to achieve on day-old hair. Freshly washed hair will need either a dry shampoo or a styling powder distributed evenly throughout to add more grit and body.

What hair trends are big for the coming season?
There is a lot of short hair around at the moment. Adventurous people who are keen to embrace this are looking at textured urchin crops or mini bobs – which are cropped up high to around lip level and teamed with a short textured fringe. For those who don’t want to part with their long hair, a choppy fringe will keep you up-to-date.

How important is hair styling in a runway show?
A runway show tells a story about fashion from head to toe, so hair is definitely a part of that story. It should be there to support the fashion and the vision of the designer. Sometimes that requires a very avant-garde look or sometimes a very minimalist approach, but it should never overpower the outfit being worn by the model.

Catwalk on the Street kicks off at 11am on Saturday March 22.
