Fashion is no longer simply about clothing, Karl Lagerfeld says.

“It’s about the whole package – not just accessories or glasses, but fragrances, too. It is important for a brand to have its own signature perfume. A fragrance is as important as a piece of clothing.”

It’s with this reasoning the designer has decided to venture into scent once more, launching a pair of fragrances for women and men this week after a brief hiatus.

Created by perfumers Christine Nagel and Serge Majoullier, the eau de parfum for women is a green floral with bursts of fresh lemon and peach, with musks and woody notes on the base.

The fragrances are encased in bottles that mimic the designer’s trademark quirks; the straight, rigid lines of his clothing are the inspiration behind the shape, and like the collar of Karl’s favourite shirts, a large metal rings sits beneath the caps.

“The bottle’s aesthetic is both high-tech and classic. I think now is the right time for it. A touch of high tech and a touch of classic glass for an exquisitely-formed bottle.”

In keeping with his high-tech message, Lagerfeld created an emoticon “language” to tie in with the new launch, including a silhouette of the designer himself, his famous shirt collar, his gloved-hands and his beloved pet cat, Choupette.

We’ve got two sets of the men’s and women’s fragrances to give away! To enter the draw, simply tell us the name of Karl Lagerfeld’s cat in the comments section below.
