The fashion designer with a flair for the outré celebrated his nuptials with a fittingly fabulous wedding reception.
It was the wedding the fashion world had been waiting for when Marc Jacobs married model Charly ‘Char’ Defrancesco on April 6 in New York City. The couple got engaged in 2018, when Jacobs proposed in a Chipotle restaurant with the help of a flash mob dancing to Prince’s “Kiss”, and it’s safe to say the expectations were set high for the wedding reception.
Known for hosting some of the most outrageous fashion week parties, Marc Jacobs’ team did not disappoint – there were outrageous outfits, an arty photobooth, celebrities galore, surprise performances and a five-tier wedding cake that very nearly tipped over. Like all good modern weddings, the happy couple encouraged guests to share their favourite moments with a custom Instagram hashtag: #marcandcharswedding.
Here are all of the major moments shared:
The reception was held at The Grill, a steak house restaurant situated in the iconic Seagram Building, which can hold up to 600 guests for special events. The most striking features are its mid-century bar and the metallic chain curtains intricately layered to cover 6-metre high windows.
Ariel Dearie Flowers added some extra magic to the space with a custom floral design, including whole blossom trees.
The venue also came alive with surprise performances throughout the night, including the below cabaret-inspired number.
One of the most striking details from the evening was the five-tier vanilla and almond wedding cake, complete with fondant flowers. It was made by Ron Ben-Israel Cakes and the team had to undergo several rehearsals to ensure the cake could be brought into the room in one piece for the cutting ceremony!

How do you entertain guests when they are as many and varied as Kate Moss, Bella and Gigi Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, Christy Turlington, Rita Ora, Kaia Gerber, Christy Turlington, Lil Kim, Anna Sui, and Pat McGrath? A photobooth with poodle cut-outs is a great place to start, as is an epic purple-light dance floor, as shared by the founder and creative director of Colette, Sarah Andelman.
Best dressed goes to:
The unofficial dress code was ‘more is more’ and our vote goes to Arielle Arnold, an assistant designer at Marc Jacobs, who made chiffon look chic in custom Troy Dylan Allen.
A special mention goes to fashion journalist and stylist Katie Grand in Marc Jacobs.
Each guest took home a wedding souvenir, a white sweatshirt designed in collaboration with Scott Campbell. It featured two cute otters holding hands and a cheeky note that read: “I came to Marc and Char’s wedding celebration and all I got was this lousy sweatshirt”. Rumour has it, customized “Marc and Char” vape pens were also handed out.
