Five times Adele shut down her body haters

Adele at the 58th Grammy awards.
Adele may be a Grammy Award-winning superstar and a bloody good laugh to boot, but that hasn’t stopped the haters from trying to body shame the ‘Hello’ singer.

Being the super cool powerhouse that she is, Adele has never let anyone’s opinions about her body hinder her success. Here are five times the British star has risen above the haters and made it clear that the only opinion that will ever matter about her body is her own:

On having body image issues:
“I do have body image problems, for sure, but I don’t let them rule my life, at all. And there’s bigger issues going on in the world than how I might feel about myself and stuff like that.”

On gender inequality and societal expectations around body image:
“It’s a little bit annoying that men don’t get asked that question [about their body] as much. But other than that it seemed to astound people that I was plus size and being successful, that was how I felt.”

On how there is more than one way to be an entertainer:
“I love seeing Lady Gaga’s boobs and bum. I love seeing Katy Perry’s boobs and bum. Love it. But that’s not what music is about. I don’t make music for eyes, I make music for ears.”

On handling criticism from Karl Lagerfeld like a boss:
“I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”

On her priorities:
“I would only lose weight if it affected my health or sex life, which it doesn’t.”
