What the FQ team are planning to wear on New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is the time to celebrate with family and friends. What will the FQ team be doing?

Whether you choose to make New Year’s Eve an all-out party or more of a low-key affair, the night does require a bit of advanced planning; not just when it comes to ticket purchasing, or meal planning, or coordinating with your crew… but also when it comes to what you’re going to wear. Here at FQ, we’re counting down the days and making sure we’re fully prepped for not just New Year’s Eve, but all the key occasions before and after too.

Purchasing a new outfit just for one night sometimes isn’t the most feasible financially (and especially if you’re anything like us, and want to make some more thoughtful fashion choices going into 2020) so we were thrilled to hear there’s another fabulous dress rental company in town, called Stylestarter Boutique, which are stocked to the brim with some of the best brands, including Zimmermann, Bec & Bridge, Camilla, RUBY, Sheike, Rat & Boa and more.

Knowing what we’ve got coming up over the break, three of the FQ team turned to Stylestarter.co.nz to see if they could find the perfect outfit to fit their plans. See what they picked (plus hear about what’s on the menu come New Year’s Eve) by reading on below.

What are you planning to do for New Year’s Eve this year?
This New Year’s six of us will be staying in a bach at Cooper’s beach up north which I’m really looking forward to as I haven’t travelled further than Kerikeri before. It will be a super casual New Years and I’m not planning on getting dressed up for the night. Before I go though I will be having dinner and drinks with friends which I’m looking forward to getting dressed up for.

What will you be wearing?
I don’t own a pant suit and I’ve always wanted to wear one so I chose to hire this Sheike Boardwalk two-piece pant suit from Stylestarter Boutique for our dinner.

What will be on the menu?
We will be going to a fusion restaurant so I’m really looking forward to sharing lots of small meals and eating things I wouldn’t usually order. I normally go for cocktails that have ginger or lime like a Moscow mule.

What song will get the party started for you?
Wonderwall by Oasis.

New Year’s Day plans?
New Year’s Day will hopefully be spent at the beach reading and swimming.

What are you planning to do for New Year’s Eve this year?
I’m still undecided on what I’m going to do to celebrate New Year’s 2020 but I imagine the evening will be relatively relaxed and spent with friends and loved ones.

What will you be wearing?
I’ve chosen Zimmerman’s sueded silk Winsome dress in sky blue because it can take me anywhere – whether it’s barefoot on the beach or dressed up for a special event, as I’ve styled here.

What will be on the menu?
We often have a big family feast before heading off to celebrate – with a special cake for dessert. With a bit of luck, the champagne will be flowing.

What song will get the party started for you?
I’m loving Lizzo at the moment. Someone invariably will get hold of the playlist and blast Europe’s The Final Countdown too. I guess it’s good to mix it up!

New Year’s Day plans?
I’m hoping to have a relaxed New Year’s Day where I catch-up on everyone’s evening and go for a walk before lazing about on the beach reading magazines (my favourite activity).

What are you planning to do for New Year’s Eve this year?
A group of around 15-20 friends and I usually head north of Auckland with our partners and offspring and are all dotted around various spots including Mangawhai, Lang’s Beach, Pakiri and Matakana. We typically try to meet up on New Year’s Day at a winery in the area (we particularly love the relaxed vibes of Te Whai Bay Wines in Mangawhai) to soak up the sun and enjoy some nibbles along with a glass of ice cold rosé, while the kids play in the vines. In the evening, we generally have a group dinner and play some croquet.

What will you be wearing?
I look for low maintenance outfits over the New Year’s break – something that can take me from day to evening in maximum comfort. I loved this RUBY Cascade Crush maxi dress, which I found at Stylestarter Boutique, as it’s perfect to throw on over swimwear for the beach or to team with espadrilles and an oversized hat when heading to a vineyard.

What will be on the menu?
In the past we’ve done Mexican fiestas and classic Kiwi barbeques; not sure what we’ll be cooking this year, but you can bet it will be super low-key and all about great food, great wine and great company.

What song will get the party started for you?
Pretty much anything will get me dancing, but for some reason I am a bit more partial to yacht rock (Tom Petty, Phil Collins, Tears for Fears et al) when it comes to New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Day plans?
Like everyone else, a day spent at the beach swimming, sunning, reading and relaxing is the ideal way to see in 2020.
