Three tips for sartorially surviving the daylight saving switchover

We all know that those long summer days can’t go on forever, yet despite this the end of daylight savings – and the sudden switch to dark nights and disorientating mornings – always seems to sneak up as a rude shock to the system.

While it might take a while for your body clock to adjust, these key looks from Farmers can at least make getting dressed in the morning a little bit easier – carrying you from work to weekend, autumn to winter in style.

1. Self-care Sunday

Why go out when you could stay in? The return to cool days and longs nights provides the perfect opportunity to take time out for you.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Slip into something silky, throw on a hug of a cardigan, add in some pampering skincare and a good book and you have the recipe for a high-glam evening of “me” time.

2. Four seasons saviours

Saying goodbye to daylight savings also means a reluctant hello to that fickle New Zealand weather we all know and not-so-much love. Be ready for all four seasons in your day with smart layers and all-weather accessories.

WHAT TO WEAR:
A crisp white shirt under and fine-knit jumper is a classic transeasonal combo. Team with a tailored pant for work, or dress down with jeans and a clean white sneaker for the weekend. A pop of colour – whether a handbag or lipstick – and an uplifting fragrance will also go a long way in keeping things cheery when the weather turns.

3. The romantic weekender

Crisp afternoon walks, lazy lie-ins, red wine by a crackling fire – when the temperature drops there’s nothing quite like a last-minute weekend away to turn the heat back up.

WHAT TO WEAR:
Who says comfort can’t be sexy? Pair high-impact lingerie under a slouchy sweater and your favourite denim for a getaway-ready look with a sensuous twist. Add a lick of highlighter to give winter skin a healthy, sun-kissed glow.
