Our expert panel dissects the latest trends being worn by the celebs.
Kate Peck (MTV Australia VJ): “Nup, it’s just not happening. For anyone. I need to make this clear. No-one should ever wear a silk slip dress. There is no knicker, nor bra, that can ever work under a slip dress, and visible panty lines are not cool. The only person who comes close to nailing this is Candice Swanepoel, and she probably spends eight hours in the gym every day while snacking on herbs so she should look good in it. Basically, this is scary territory because the way that silk clings, you may as well be in your birthday suit! This is a look to wear on one occasion – to bed, and to bed only.”
Ash Williams (comedian): “Finally, your favourite curtains can be dresses! It’s as easy as walking into your fabric supplier and asking them for as much curtain as you need (kind of like asking for salami at the deli). Now, from the naked eye (no pun intended), Zoë Kravtiz hasn’t bothered to try while Anne Hathaway continues to. Candice Swanepoel looks amazing, but she would still look good wearing a stick of salami from the deli.”
Alissa Thomas (CLEO Australia fashion director): “The satin slip is tough to pull off. I learnt this the hard way by wearing one to my year 10 formal. It showed off every bump and pulled in all the wrong places. In saying that, though, I still don’t hate them. Maybe they’re my fashion Everest, but I’ll never give up on them. Rosie, Chanel and RiRi lead the way, while Anne’s and Zoë’s are swallowing them whole. You can’t blame them; it’s an easy slip (sorry).”
