Portrait of Kristine Crabb by Rebecca Zephyr Thomas.
Run, don’t walk, for the remaining Miss Crabb pieces that will see you through every occasion long after the designer closes down on March 1, 2019.
As the FQ editors were warming to the festive season on Wednesday morning in early December, the news broke that iconic New Zealand designer Miss Crabb would be closing its doors. Our Christmas bead hanging and Mariah Carey carol humming came to an abrupt halt as we contemplated the beginning of the end of an era.
Miss Crabb’s garments could instil universal confidence in the beholder via a distinct cut on the bias, kimono sleeve, delicate ties or by means of a beautiful side spilt. They favour freedom and the female form above all else, with designs that can be dressed up, layered down or worn completely back-to-front for a strong but minimal silhouette.
But it’s not all bad news. With the online and in-store shopping set to cease on March 1, 2019, we – and you – still have time to snap up the distinct pieces that have turned heads for more than a decade.
