We asked mothers and daughters to share their fashion essentials, shopping secrets and style obsessions – first up is fashionable mother-daughter duo Anna Caselberg & Isabella Lau.

What does your job entail?
Anna: I am a freelance fashion stylist and author based in Auckland, and I love to promote wool in fashion.
Isabella: I’m a brand manager at Ruby in Auckland. I look after the marketing, PR and communications.

How would you describe your personal style?
A: Relaxed tailoring, clean lines, unfussy, but aware of current trends.
I: Clean, classic and confident. I’m a pants and shirt girl, but I also like clothing with great tailoring and a bit of edge.

What are your rules when it comes to fashion?
A: Wear what suits you. This includes body shape, personality and lifestyle. To wear your clothes with confidence, these elements should be seamless.
I: Have your own personal style and know what suits your body. Don’t try and replicate too many people’s looks, just rock you.

What are your go-to brands?
A: Georgia Alice, Liam, Harman Grubiša, Workshop, Zambesi and Hailwood.
I: Ruby and Liam. I have always been a Ruby girl. I also absolutely love Georgia Alice and Zoe & Morgan.

What piece of style advice have you tried to teach one another?
I: To draw inspiration from designers. However, this doesn’t mean you have to purchase designer clothing. Be clever with your shopping.
A: Invest in quality, and think about investment pieces overnight before you purchase.
Do you ever share clothes?
I: Yes, we always share shirts, jumpers, jewellery and shoes. Most recently, I have got into Mum’s old Cheryl Vuillermin pieces from the 90s.
