The 2018 Met Gala theme has been announced

The 2018 Met Gala theme has been revealed as Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and Catholic Imagination.

The Costume Institute, which hosts the most elaborate red-carpet fashion spectacle of the year, has also announced that the coinciding exhibition will share the same title, opening in May.

The Met Gala – otherwise known as the Costume Institute Gala – is the event which celebrates the premiere of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art annual exhibition.

Confirmed hosts for the evening include crowd-favourite Rihanna, Amal Clooney and sponsor of the exhibition, Donatella Versace.

From Balenciaga to Versace, the exhibition will draw on the influence that religion and liturgy has had on fashion and clothing to date.

There is said to be more than 150 pieces which will be on display and spread across three venues within the Met: The Anna Wintour Costume Centre, the Cloisters (further uptown) and the medieval galleries held in the Met’s primary location. John Galliano will undoubtedly have a presence in the ensembles, as will Coco Chanel, who was famously educated by nuns.

Celebrity attendees will no doubt begin their preparations immediately and historically, have no boundaries when it comes to tailoring their style to complement the theme.
