27 August 2019

New Zealand Fashion Week has kicked off with a bang for 2019 and what better way to welcome the festivities than with a glamorous opening gala and Kate Sylvester’s show?

Last night, New Zealand Fashion Week opened its doors for 2019, continuing its legacy of providing an important platform for the local fashion industry. The official opening party was held in the picturesque Great Hall space of the historic Auckland Town Hall, with its high ceilings bathed in pink light and a Zambesi photo wall that had guests queuing up.

Dame Pieter Stewart kicked things off with a speech celebrating the 19-year history of New Zealand Fashion Week, the return to its original venue, and the importance of sustainability and diversity in the fashion industry. She was followed by Mayor Phil Goff, before handing over the official opening duties to Grace Stratton of All is for All. She gave a moving speech, acknowledging the shift in the industry, calling for inclusivity and applauding the local designers who have embraced those with access needs this year.

The guest list included a who’s who of the local industry, with designers, media, buyers, models and influencers mingling and contemplating the week to come. We have rounded up some of the best-dressed attendees – scroll down to enjoy all the party looks.
