If you’re keen to get on the group fitness bandwagon but don’t want to pay through the nose for a gym membership, we’ve found the solution. Read below to check out the free, yes free!, organised workout programs happening around the country every week.

Lululemon Sweat Sundays

Kick start your Sunday the right way with Lululemon Sweat Sundays – in-store workouts taking place across the country each weekend featuring everything from yoga to crossfit, pilates and even hula hooping. Sessions are led by qualified instructors and are posted in advance on lululemon.co.nz so you know what to expect when you show up. Lululemon provides water and all the equipment you need – including yoga mats – so you’ve got no excuses.

Nike Training Club

Smash out a workout once a week with Nike Training Club’s Monday night sessions at Takutai Square in Auckland’s Britomart. The 30-45 minute high intensity training sessions are based on the N+TC iPhone and Android app, helping you to increase your strength and fitness quickly. It’s free to attend, but you need to register first at Nike.com.

Newmarket Free Fitness

These free community fitness initiatives take place throughout the week, with supervised group workouts focused on getting fit with the help of bodyweight exercises, an Abs n’ Booty class as well as Dance Fit and Box Fit sessions. The workouts are suited to all fitness levels and are held at various locations around Newmarket.

Adidas Run Club

Up for a night on the town? adidas has a free RunClub that meets at 6pm every Tuesday at Platinum Sports Co. in Victoria Park Market. RunClub is suitable for runners of all abilities so it’s the ideal place to get started or to continue to stay motivated if you’re in training for an event like the half or full marathon. There is a variety of routes and distances on offer, along with technical running advice and post work-out tips. As an added bonus, after attending six sessions you will receive a free RunClub t-shirt.

Sport Wellington Buggy Walk

Explore parks and tracks around the greater Wellington area – with your little one in tow – thanks to Sport Wellington’s Buggy Walks. The free, buggy-friendly walks take place on the first Thursday of each month, with free coffee provided by Caffe L’affare, a free BBQ put on by Southern Cross and entertainment for the kids care of Barnados. Walks start at 10.30am and take approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on the track and your fitness levels.
