5 beauty hacks from Gigi Hadid’s makeup artist

You may not have heard of Patrick Ta yet, but Gigi Hadid, Kylie Jenner, Hailey Baldwin and Shay Mitchell certainly have.

The makeup artist has proudly perfected the faces of our favourite Hollywood hotties and is taking over Instagram with his celeb selfies and 400,000+ followers. What’s more, Patrick Ta is self-taught, and credits Instagram for giving him the inspiration to turn his passion for all things glam into a full-blown career.

So it’s safe to say, the makeup magician has a few tips, tricks and beauty hacks up his sleeve… Here are some of our favourites, from his recent interview with Teen Vogue:

Ta’s tip #1: Mix heavier foundation with a drop of oil, or a lightweight, but long-wearing look

“Everyone is all about the no-makeup makeup look — but lightweight foundations don’t last as long, especially on the carpet. My favorite foundation is the Giorgio Armani Designer Lift Foundation. It’s on the heavier side but it’s really wearable if you break it down a little bit with oil. All you need is to add a few drops!”

Ta’s tip #2: Switch oil for MAC Strobe Cream, for a more lit-from-within appearance

“If I want to add a subtle glow but still make it appear very natural, I’ll mix in MAC Strobe Cream. Like oil, it sheers down foundation to create a natural finish but gives a hint of illumination. I keep it in my kit at all times because it’s so easy to work with.”

Ta’s tip #3: A red-orange lip has universal appeal

“I’m such a huge fan of red-orange lips. I’ve done it on every single one of my clients, for sure. Shay especially loves a standout color like this. It’s pretty bold but incredibly fresh. A lot of people are afraid of having such a bright pop of colour on the face, but orange works for everyone’s skin tone, if you find the right hue for you.” Try Australis Colour Inject Moisturising Lipstick in Super Crump.

Ta’s tip #4: Choose a waterproof mascara with maximum curl hold

“I love, love, love L’Oreal Paris Voluminious Carbon Black Mascara. Not only is it waterproof, but your lashes hold the curl for hours after application! It’s really great for creating longer, thicker lashes.” Ta’s fave mascara isn’t available in NZ, but the L’Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes in Waterproof Black is a winning alternative.

Ta’s tip #5: Never forget to finish with a spritz of mist

“Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is a must-have of mine for finishing an entire look. It literally makes makeup melt onto your skin. A little bit goes a long way — I recommend only spraying once or twice!” At Miss FQ, we love Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water to fix our makeup and create the ultimate dewy complexion.
