Get ready to par-tay!
One of the biggest days in the Auckland music calendar, Auckland City Limits (ACL) is a must-do for all music lovers with its wide range of musical acts. Whether you’re planning on heading to the festival with your closest friend in tow or arrive surrounded by a bunch of pals, preparation is key to ensuring you have a unforgettable and enjoyable day.
To make sure it’s memorable for all the RIGHT reasons (you have been warned, an unplanned day can quickly go south thanks to dehydration and sunburn) we’ve compiled everything you need to know to ensure you actually get to enjoy the music and the day’s festivities.
Where is it?
Sprawling out amongst nature, ACL finds the perfect festival home in Western Springs. Not only does it provide some of the most picturesque surroundings, but there’s also plenty of shade and space to jam pack in as many bands, food and drink vendors as possible.
And while Western Springs is very easy to find, getting around ACL will require a bit more study. Key to making the most of the event is the below venue map which will help you know where to be and at what time, the best route to take you there and where you can find all the food and drink you need – because refreshments are essential.
Use the below or do one better and download the ACL app, which has handy info including the venue map which will keep you and your friends in the loop for the entire day.
What to wear:
It may be March but this festival is still bound to get HOT. So come prepared by wearing not only your coolest “I’m with the band” outfit, but also something that is functional and comfortable. If you’re stuck for ideas, why not take notes from our street style gallery from Laneway Festival 2018? Alternatively if you’re a super-fan, you might want to consider wearing the ACL merch…?
What to bring:
To ensure you have a stress-free and enjoyable festival, start ticking off the below list which includes everything you’ll need for ACL:
- Festival map and schedule (bring a hard copy just in case because, you know…technology).
- Sun protection ie hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.
- Water bottle for hydration.
- A spare battery for charging your phone.
- Money for purchasing food and drink.
- A useful bag – not too big that it’s a pain to lug around, but not too small that you can’t fit everything.
And if you’re a control freak and this level of organisation still isn’t enough, then check out our ultimate festival survival guide to ensure you have everything you need.
We highly recommend grabbing your friends beforehand to create a custom master schedule for the day. You may have to make some compromises on the bands you’ll all see but ideally there should be a win in it for everyone. See the schedule below to determine who is playing where and when.
Who to watch:
To ensure you get to enjoy at least one style of music you like, we’ve created a list based on everyone’s favourite music genres.

The bigger the flavour, the better. And this year,ACL has packed a punch with it’s incredible food lineup. Hand-selected under the Auckland Eats banner by Blue Breeze Inn chef Che Barrington, this menu already has us planning more than one trip to the food trucks. Munch away on a Blue Breeze pork bun, devour a slice of Toto’s or Farina’s famous pizzas or enjoy the zest of a meal from Cafe Hanoi. And if that isn’t enough to get you drooling, chef Josh Emett’s latest restaurant Hawker and Roll and Auckland’s latest hit joint Lowbrow also joins the lineup this year.
Tickets to Auckland City Limits 2018 are still available at Ticketmaster.
