Showing for the sixth time at New Zealand Fashion Week, designer James Dobson of Jimmy D knows a thing or two about creating his runway world.

What can we look forward to from your collection showing at K Road Presents?
There’s a live element that will open the show that I don’t want to give away just yet… a killer soundtrack, the launch of our SS17 collection ‘Bad Feng Shui’ as well as a preview of AW17. The collection is kind of bookish, sexy and gender-bendery….

Describe your inspiration for the show in five words or less.
Poetry girls and their boys.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?
Nervous wees.

What are you most looking forward to at NZ Fashion Week?
I love shows, it’s the one time you get to create this whole little world and invite everyone in. That feeling when the models are all lined up and the music starts makes my stomach drop but is so completely exhilarating at the same time.

This isn’t your first time at NZ Fashion Week. Do you have any survival tips?
Just because the drinks are free it doesn’t mean you should drink twice as many of them.

How will you unwind once the show is over?
I want to run away to Waiheke with my boyf and not think about fashion for at least a weekend.
