As digital editor of FQ.co.nz, Fashion Quarterly’s online home, Kelly McAuliffe has to be on the pulse of the very latest in fashion, beauty and lifestyle.
The hectic pace of working online means Kelly needs to be ready for any situation and having her beauty essentials on her at all times is a no-brainer. She might be checking out a new range of footwear or lunching at the latest hotspot, then racing back to the office to cover breaking celebrity style news. It’s safe to say, there’s never a dull day! See what Kelly gets up to in a typical day and then read her thoughts on the latest foundation to join the Double Wear family, below.
“Unlike FQ’s beauty editor Lucy, for whom trying new products is just another day in the office, I am pretty apprehensive when it comes to putting any new formulations on my skin. I’m the unfortunate owner of skin that is super sensitive and even the slightest change to my skincare or makeup routine can cause all sorts of temperamental flare-ups and breakouts.
I’ve been using the same cleanser, moisturiser and foundation for almost a decade now, purely because I am scared to try anything else. But this also means I could be missing out on products that might make my life easier, suit my skin type better or improve other skin woes that have crept up in the meantime (hello wrinkles/sun spots/dark circles).
When Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Nude Cushion Stick landed on my desk, I approached with trepidation… but I needn’t have worried at all. The formulation feels light but has a heavier coverage than my go-to daily tinted moisturiser, meaning I can cover up dark circles, acne scarring and pigmentation at the swish of a stick.
I used a flat Kabuki brush to apply in the morning and the result was a dewy base that didn’t look like I’d packed it on – my eternal fear. I threw the Cushion Stick in my handbag and pulled it out during fashion week for little top-ups throughout the day on said problem areas, dabbing on directly with the cushion stick applicator and patting in with my fingertips.
Three weeks in and not a stinging red face or breakout in sight! I’m officially sold.”
