Two nominations at the 2018 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and more pairs of sneakers than she cares to admit, this 24-year-old Aucklander is kicking ass in the local rap music scene.

What’s your story? How did you get to where you are today?
I started writing my own songs in high school, and in my last year I started putting them up on SoundCloud. I was using it more as an outlet, rather than with any big plans. In my first year out of high school, P-Money found me on SoundCloud and we built a working relationship from there. He helped me to find my sound and get started in a professional capacity. It’s been a lot of hard work to get here, but I’m only just getting started.

How would you describe your sound/music?
I would say that I have an energetic and bright sound, I really enjoy beats that make people (including myself) want to dance, while also being able to speak to any topic or area that is relevant in my life!

How important is female empowerment to you and why?
It is very important to me because I am a woman.  We live in a patriarchal world where the playing fields are not even. Not everyone gets afforded the same privileges and safety. Uplifting each other, and pushing for visibility (and spaces that are safe)  is key.

What has been your greatest accomplishment or milestone to date?
Every achievement to me is amazing! I feel very blessed to be able to do what I am doing.  I would say the achievements I am most proud of are always when people say to me that my music has been inspiring to them, or they have been able to connect with it in some way. That is why I do music! But being nominated for two awards at the VNZMA’s this year is also really exciting 🙂

What motivates you?
Wanting to inspire and empower people who can relate to me (on any level) is what motivates me.

Who are your style icons?
Rihanna is an obvious style icon! But I actually get (realistically priced lol) inspiration from so many different people all over the world from Instagram! My fav account is @tomboyishmag.

What’s the ultimate accessory you can’t live without?
My favourite item of jewellery – which is a gold chain with a pendant of the African continent. I wear it with everything!

What are your makeup must-haves?
I don’t wear a lot of makeup – but when I do I always make sure I highlight well.

Go-to shoes?
I have so many pairs of sneakers now it is ridiculous.  I will choose the pair of sneakers that I wear based on the outfit. Or I will base the outfit on the sneakers. They must work in well!

Desert island TV series?
I’m a bit late on the bandwagon, but I’m finally watching Narcos! I would take that with me.

And your can’t-out-it-down book right now?
I’m currently reading the Autobiography of Malcom X.

Tell us about a holiday that you rated?
I just got back from a two month overseas trip to LA, New York and London. Loved every minute and being able to meet people and experience the music scene over there.

Anything else we should know about you?
I believe in people. I believe that love is the most important thing we’ve got and at the end of the day, no success is really a success without people you love to share it with.
