Lucy Egan dreams of becoming a plant breeder and halfway to completing her Masters in Science, she is well on her way to making her dream come true. The passionate 22-year-old from Christchurch was selected to take part in our Maybelline Make it Happen campaign two months ago. Check out what she’s been up to since.

To recap:

• Lucy has visited a variety of plant and science businesses across New Zealand, each offering her different advice for her future in their industry.
• Her first visit was to Zespri where she explored the business side of the kiwifruit industry. Lucy says this visit sparked a new interest in the fuzzy fruit.
• Next she went to Te Puke and visited Plant and Food where she met with some of their breeders. They inspired Lucy to get out there and make her dreams happen.
• Lucy also visited the Lincoln site for Plant and Food where she met with a team of female scientists and technicians. During this trip Lucy said she really got a taste for women in the science industry which deepened her ambition to become a part it.
• Lastly was the Girls in Science event in Auckland. Some of New Zealand’s most impressive doctors and professors were at the event and Lucy had the pleasure of meeting with them and talking about her dreams. She says it was inspiring to meet woman who are so passionate and are doing so well at what they do.
